This study evaluates overvoltages caused by capacitor switching in high voltage networks. Furthermore, it will analyse the possibility of using RC damping circuits to reduce such overvoltages if necessary. The EMTP program will be used to perform this study. An Iberdrola 220/132 kV substation will taken as example.
